Fixed bridges

A bridge is used to replace missing teeth. Traditionally, the adjacent natural teeth have had to be reduced with a dental drill. Conventional bridges are constructed in the laboratory using a mixture of porcelain and metal and are cemented on to the natural teeth.

More recently, bridges have been made using a high tech CAD/CAM zirconium material which is extremely strong and has excellent appearance.

Alternatively, an adhesive or “Maryland” type of bridge may be used which involves minimal preparation of the adjacent natural tooth.

The bridge is secured via a small metal wing glued onto the back of a natural tooth. Although these bridges are technique sensitive, they can be very successful if carried out carefully.

Bridges can be a good way to replace missing teeth in many circumstances.
